TOUR OVERVIEW
The Koruldi Lakes hike is one of the most popular day hikes from Mestia, and for good reason. The route climbs above the town toward open mountain slopes, panoramic viewpoints, and the small alpine lakes known as Koruldi Lakes. On clear days, the views toward Ushba, Tetnuldi, Banguriani, and the surrounding Caucasus range are among the best you can reach in a single day from Mestia.
This tour starts directly from Mestia and includes a local guide only. The hike is suitable for active travelers who want a rewarding mountain day without leaving the Mestia area by vehicle. The route is not technical, but it involves steady uphill walking, open terrain, and elevation gain. Proper hiking shoes, water, sun protection, and a rain jacket are recommended.
For travelers who prefer not to hike the full route, horse riding can be arranged upon request, depending on local availability, weather, and trail conditions.

TOUR BY DAY
Start from Mestia
The tour begins in Mestia, where you meet your local guide at your accommodation or an agreed meeting point. After a short briefing, the hike starts from the town area and gradually climbs toward the mountains above Mestia.
Climb above Mestia
The first part of the route leads uphill from Mestia, passing viewpoints over the town, Svan towers, and the surrounding valley. As you gain elevation, the landscape opens and the views become wider. This section requires steady walking and a normal level of fitness.
Mountain viewpoints
The route continues through open slopes and alpine terrain. In clear weather, you get excellent views of Ushba and other major peaks of Svaneti. The guide will set a comfortable pace and choose short rest stops along the way.
Koruldi Lakes
After the main ascent, you reach Koruldi Lakes. The lakes are small, but the setting is impressive: open mountain scenery, reflections on calm water, grazing animals in summer, and wide views of the Caucasus range. There will be time to rest, take photos, and enjoy the landscape.
Optional horse riding
Horse riding to Koruldi Lakes can be arranged upon request. This is useful for travelers who want to experience the route with less physical effort or enjoy a different perspective on the landscape. Horse availability depends on local owners, season, and weather conditions, so it should be requested in advance.
Return to Mestia
After spending time near the lakes, you return to Mestia with your guide. The descent follows the same or an adjusted route depending on conditions and group pace. The tour ends back in Mestia.
