TOUR OVERVIEW

The Guri Mountain hike is a scenic day trip from Ushguli, designed for travelers who want wide mountain views, open alpine landscapes, and a quieter route above one of Svaneti’s most atmospheric villages. The tour starts with transport from Mestia to Ushguli and back, then continues as a guided hike from Ushguli toward Guri Mountain.

This route is a strong alternative to the Shkhara Glacier hike if you want a higher viewpoint experience rather than a valley walk. From Ushguli, the trail gradually leads away from the village and opens toward broad views of the surrounding mountains, river valley, medieval towers, and the high peaks of Upper Svaneti. In good weather, the landscape feels spacious and calm, with excellent photo opportunities throughout the hike.

The hike is not technical, but it is a proper mountain walk. The route includes uphill sections, uneven ground, open terrain, and exposure to changing mountain weather. For travelers who prefer an easier option or want a different experience, horse riding from Ushguli can be arranged upon request, depending on local availability and weather conditions.

Drive from Mestia to Ushguli

The transfer to Ushguli follows one of the most scenic mountain roads in Svaneti. The route passes through traditional villages, river valleys, mountain slopes, and views of medieval Svan towers. Road conditions can vary, so the drive is part of the mountain experience and is usually done with a suitable local vehicle.

Arrival in Ushguli

Hike from Ushguli toward Guri Mountain

The hike starts from Ushguli and follows the trail toward Guri Mountain.
